Ultimate Softball Clinics are unique in that we categorize players with other like-skilled players. This provides the correct level of teaching to the overall group. This approach prevents beginning players from being overwhelmed as well as higher skilled players from getting bored and complacent.
Our clinics are designed to be fun, fast-paced and educational.
Ultimate Softball Clinics was founded and created by Los Alamitos Varsity head coach and 18U Firecrackers head coach, Rob Weil and travel ball co-head coaches Ted Holcomb and Gregg Knight.
Ted and Gregg met on the softball fields in 2014 as each coached their local rec leagues 8U Gold All Star teams. They battled in many championship games with each game being decided by 1 run.
Their coaching philosophies and styles were evident and identical. Both concentrated on defensive fundamentals and manufacturing runs offensively. They brought this philosophy together when they formed the OC Firecrackers Holcomb/Knight travel ball team in 2015.
Their OC Firecrackers team has consistently been praised as one of the best defensive teams in their age groups over the past 3 years. They manufacture runs offensively better than most other top teams in the country.
Their current OC Firecrackers team has won multiple TCS titles, finished runner-up in the USSSA National’s tourney in 2018, PGF qualified every year and finished the 2018 season ranked #6 overall in the U.S. by Flo Softball.
Coach Ted was a High School All-American baseball player at Westchester High School and went on to play 6 years of minor league baseball with the Los Angeles Dodgers and Atlanta Braves Organizations. He ran many baseball camps and clinics during his baseball playing days. With three daughters he transferred that experience to the softball field. His older daughter Jenna Holcomb was an All-American at Los Alamitos High School and currently plays for the University of Tennessee.
Coach Gregg was a High School all-state baseball player in Michigan. He went on to play baseball and football in college. Gregg started coaching youth sports in 1997. His first coaching job was an assistant football coach at Santa Margarita Catholic High School. This team went 13-0 and won the state championship behind star quarterback Carson Palmer.
Coach Rob Weil is the most successful high school coach in Orange County history. He also owns the winningest record in Orange County high school softball history. Coach Rob was voted as USA Today’s coach of the year in 2017 and his team finished the season the #1 team in the country. Coach Rob also coached the 18U Firecrackers to a National Championship in 2016. In 2012 he was inducted into the CIF Hall of Fame. Coach Rob honestly owns dozens of more awards.
